Sudanese Army Repels RSF Offensive in Blue Nile State

(MENAFN) Sudan’s military announced Monday that it had thwarted a ground offensive by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and its allied Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) in Blue Nile state, while air defenses intercepted drones east of Khartoum.

According to a statement from the army’s 14th Infantry Division, troops successfully repelled an assault targeting the Al-Baraka area in the southern part of Blue Nile state.

The division reported that the attacking forces suffered significant personnel and equipment losses, preventing them from advancing toward military positions. Several vehicles were reportedly destroyed, forcing the assailants to withdraw under intense fire.

The army unit said the operation highlighted its preparedness to counter hostile movements threatening its positions and to protect civilians and their property.

Separately, Sudanese air defenses intercepted a drone attack east of the capital, although further details about the incident were not immediately available.

Neither the RSF nor the SPLM-N had issued an immediate response to the military’s account.

The latest clashes come amid mounting tensions across Blue Nile state, where attacks attributed to the RSF and SPLM-N have affected several areas in recent weeks, raising concerns about a further escalation of fighting in southeastern Sudan.
