Unrest Spreads in Belfast Following Serious Knife Attack
According to reports, authorities said a 30-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder in connection with an attack that took place on Monday night. He also faces additional charges related to possession of a bladed weapon in a public space and issuing threats to kill.
Following the incident, fires were reported in several districts of the city, including the burning of a bus in the eastern part of Belfast.
Police deployed riot units and Tactical Support Group officers as disturbances spread, with unrest reported in various neighborhoods. According to reports, residents were evacuated from a fire-damaged building, while groups of masked individuals gathered in certain areas.
As tensions escalated, several businesses closed early, public transport services were suspended, and road closures were introduced as authorities attempted to restore order.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland urged calm, warning the public against taking the law into their own hands, while investigations into both the initial attack and the subsequent disorder remain ongoing.
The victim, a man in his 40s, remains hospitalized with serious injuries affecting his eyes, neck, and back.

According to reports, British media noted that the suspect is a Sudanese national who had been granted permission to remain in the United Kingdom after entering via Ireland.
