Escalating Violence in Sudan Forces New Wave of Displacement in N. Kordofan

(MENAFN) Renewed instability in Sudan’s North Kordofan state has driven approximately 2,600 civilians to flee within just two days, according to reports citing the International Organization for Migration.

As stated by reports, the displacement occurred between April 29 and 30, affecting residents of Abu Haraz and Kazgil due to rapidly deteriorating security conditions in those areas.

According to general accounts, those forced to leave their homes have sought refuge in the Sheikan district, also located within North Kordofan, as they attempt to escape the growing violence.

“The situation remains highly tense and volatile,” the IOM warned.

The broader crisis in Sudan has been ongoing since April 2023, driven by conflict between the national army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces. The fighting stems from disputes over the group’s integration into the military structure.

According to reports, the conflict has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and forced around 13 million people from their homes, while also pushing parts of the country toward famine, making it one of the most severe humanitarian emergencies globally.
