US Plans to Present Sudan Peace Plan to Board of Peace, UN
Speaking at a Washington event linked to humanitarian efforts for Sudan, the adviser said the plan could move quickly through international channels if both sides agree. “It's likely that we can get this accepted by the two parties, take it to the Security Council…We can also take it to the Board of Peace very shortly after that,” he said.
He added that the advisory body within the Trump administration has shown strong interest in the initiative, noting, “The Board of Peace is very much interested in this process. They're very much interested in what you're doing and looking forward to providing considerable support.”
When asked why the proposal would also be brought before the board, the adviser explained that it is a smaller, highly motivated group. “The Board of Peace is a smaller group that is quite enthusiastic. Of course, their current focus is on Gaza. But why not? I know that the board is interested in looking at Sudan and helping with Sudan.”
He emphasized that engagement through the board would not undermine international efforts, arguing that both approaches work hand in hand. “It doesn't in any way affect the UN or the UN Security Council,” he said, adding that the two pathways are “absolutely complementary” and could reinforce one another politically.
According to officials, the proposed “comprehensive peace plan” has already been endorsed by members of the Quad grouping focused on ending Sudan’s civil war, which includes the United States, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
The adviser also noted that a UN-backed mechanism is in place to facilitate the withdrawal of forces from key Sudanese cities, allowing civilians to return safely. He said the opposing sides have, in principle, agreed to begin those withdrawals.
