Artillery Attack Leaves Nine Civilians Dead in Sudan's South Kordofan
Nuba Mountains Platform reported that forces from the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N)—under Abdelaziz al-Hilu's command and fighting alongside the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF)—launched the bombardment against residential areas.
The Nuba Mountains Platform confirmed the casualties included six adults and three minors, with additional injuries reported among residents.
Following the assault, Sudanese army troops counterattacked the Taital region in South Kordofan, identified as the origin point of the artillery fire, successfully seizing control of the territory, the organization stated.
As of this report, neither the Sudanese armed forces nor the SPLM-N faction or its RSF partners have issued statements regarding the incident.
Both Kadugli and Dilling have endured RSF and SPLM-N encirclement since the war's opening months over two years ago, experiencing repeated shelling and unmanned aerial bombardments throughout the siege.
Recent weeks have witnessed intense combat across all three Kordofan states—North, West, and South—displacing tens of thousands of civilians seeking safety.
The RSF maintains territorial control over Sudan's entire western Darfur region, spanning five states, though army forces hold portions of northern North Darfur. Government troops command most territory across the remaining 13 states throughout the nation's southern, northern, eastern, and central regions, including capital city Khartoum.
Since hostilities erupted in April 2023 between the Sudanese military and RSF, the conflict has resulted in thousands of deaths and forced millions from their homes across Sudan's 18 states.
