Sudan’s El-Fasher Sees Tens of Thousands of Displacements

(MENAFN) At least 7,455 individuals were forced to flee the besieged city of El-Fasher in western Sudan in a single day as a result of assaults by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), raising the cumulative total to 33,485 over the past three days, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) late Tuesday.

Sudanese officials, alongside international and UN bodies, have accused the RSF of committing “massacres and humanitarian violations” against civilians in El-Fasher over recent days.

Allegations include “summary executions,” arbitrary arrests, and enforced displacement, following the group’s offensive that began Sunday after maintaining a siege on the city for more than a year.

In its statement, the IOM reported that field teams estimated an additional 7,455 people were displaced on Oct. 28 due to ongoing clashes in El-Fasher.

The agency also highlighted that, between Oct. 26-28, a total of 33,485 individuals were forced to leave their homes.

Earlier, on Monday, the organization noted that the number of displaced people from El-Fasher between Oct. 26-27 had reached 26,030.

The IOM emphasized that these figures remain preliminary and could change as the situation continues to evolve amid persistent insecurity and the rapid pace of displacement.

According to the agency, the majority of those displaced have sought refuge in rural areas within El-Fasher locality, while others have arrived in the surrounding regions of Tawila, Mellit, and Kebkabiya, located west of the city.
