Sudan's RSF Launches Strikes on Civilian Infrastructure, Power Station
The statement described the early-morning assault, stating, "At dawn today (Sunday), the rebel militia launched suicidal drones targeting civilian facilities and infrastructure." Among the key targets were the Um Dabakir power station, fuel depots in White Nile State, and the Kenana civilian airport.
The Council accused the RSF of committing ongoing violations that "could amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity."
A military source in Kosti, White Nile State, confirmed to media that the Sudanese army's air defenses responded swiftly to the drone offensive, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday. "Ground-based air defense systems were able to intercept several of the drones," the source said, speaking on condition of anonymity. The attacks primarily affected three cities: the state capital Rabak, Kosti, and Kenana.
An eyewitness recounted the damage to media, reporting that the strikes had targeted the Sudanese army's air base in Kenana, the headquarters of the 18th Division in Kosti, and the Um Dabakir power station in Rabak.
As of now, the RSF has not issued any statements regarding the drone strikes.
The ongoing conflict between Sudan's Armed Forces and the RSF, which began in April 2023, has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and displaced millions both internally and abroad, further exacerbating the country’s dire humanitarian situation.
